Butter making
Resource verified by SHCG editorial group
Host: British Pathe
Date(s): 1940s
Notes:
This film was made by British Instructional Films to be shown in the classroom. It takes the story of making butter from cows in a field, through milking to skimming the milk and using three different types of churn to create the curds: a plunger churn, an "end-over-end" churn and a churn powered by electricity. After the curds are pressed, two wooden paddles are used to shape the butter into pats. Children at a tea table then cut pieces of butter and spread them on to bread.
