This film by Sam Hanna follows the weaving of a rush seat at the workshop of H.J. Berry & Sons in Chipping, Lancashire. Rushes are twisted together and woven around the seat frame of a wooden ladderback chair by the fingers of a skilled craftsman (or 'bottomer') and the use of a few simple tools. The woven seat is stuffed with straw and the finished item is displayed to the camera.
