Host: North West Film Archive

Notes:

This film by Sam Hanna follows the work of Sam and John Bradley of Pepper Hill Pottery, Northowan, Calderdale, Yorkshire. Shots of clay being dug up and collected from clay beds are followed by footage of the clay being washed, sieved and channelled into a settling pit. The film switches to inside the potters' workshop where the clay is kneaded in a pug mill and worked and shaped by one of the potters at his wheel. The items are seen drying on shelves, some pots are glazed and then a variety of objects are stacked in a kiln and fired. The film ends with a woman inspecting some of the finished items.
