The Blacksmith ("Rural Crafts Today" film project)

Resource verified by SHCG editorial group

Host: Museum of English Rural Life

Notes:

This family business was started by Leonard Mew’s grandfather in 1918 and occupies premises that date back to Victorian times. When there were farm horses to be shod and equipment to be repaired, the forge would have been at the heart of village life. The world has moved on and the work has declined. At the time this film was made, plans were afoot for a new housing development on the site.
