Notes:
Every Home Should Have One is a fascinating look at how housework and life in the home have changed over the last 75 years. Part of Good Housekeeping's original philosophy, when launched in 1922, was that 'There should be no more drudgery in the house. There must be time to think, to read, to enjoy life.' In reality, the social changes brought about by the First World War meant that servants were in short supply and many women found themselves, for the first time, forced to take on responsibility for cleaning, cooking and laundry in they own homes. Faced with these unaccustomed tasks, they needed advice on how to cope, and Good Housekeeping provided it. Bookseller Inventory # 001815
