19 Princelet Street
Resource verified by SHCG editorial group
Notes:
19 Princelet Street in Spitalfields is a magical unrestored Huguenot master silk weaver's home, whose shabby frontage conceals a rare surviving synagogue built over its garden. We wish to save this unique heritage site as a permanent celebration of how all our diverse communities - Asian, African, West Indian, Anglo-Saxon, Jewish, Sikh, Moslem, Huguenot and many others - have made Britain a richer place, culturally, economically and spiritually. We are working to save the building and to create a permanent exhibition where you can discover the stories of waves of newcomers - Huguenots, Irish, Jews, Bengali and Somali peoples among many others - who have shaped this area and this nation.
