Event: More than just fossils? A Geology Masterclass for Social History Curators

Have recent staff cuts meant you are now responsible for geology collections? Do you have a small collection of rocks and fossils that you don’t really know what to do with? Or do you want to know how to add a ‘social history twist’ to the interpretation of your geology collections?

This Masterclass will equip you with the confidence, skills and knowledge you need to maximise the potential of your geology collections. During a tour of Manchester Museum’s geology stores you will handle specimens, learn about collections care and find out how to undertake basic identification. You will also discover how to answer the most common public enquiries and try your hand at a geology workshop you can adapt for your collection, as well as learning tried and tested ways to interpret geology collections in a social history context.
