SHCG Conference 2013

Local Stories, Global Identities

27th-28th June at the Ulster Museum and Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Cultra.

The conference will consider how Museums should define ‘local history’ in a global society, and will explore topics such as how museums can interpret and create a shared perception of local histories where diverse communities hold different values and beliefs.

The programme will consist of a mixture of short papers, debate, discussion sessions and workshops as well as tours of exhibitions and galleries at both venues.

Confirmed speakers include Zelda Baveystock, from the Migration Museum project presenting on this bid to set up an ‘Ellis Island for the UK’. Catherine Littlejohns, from Bristol Museums and Galleries will discuss her experiences of co-curation, working with Bristol’s LGBT community, and Robbie Hannan of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum will explore the global appeal of Irish Traditional Music and its significance to interpretation at the Folk and Transport Museum.
