What is it? Medals and Militaria

Friday 18th January, 2013

Museum of Liverpool

Can you tell you Pip from your Squeak? Your Distinguished Conduct medal from your Conspicuous Gallantry award?  Do you know which order they should be displayed in? If not, this free training day at the Museum of Liverpool is for you.

By the end of the day you will have:
• Gained skills in how to identify medals
• Understood how to decipher the iconography of regimental cap badges
• Improved your knowledge of appropriate ways to store, handle and display such material
• Improved your understanding of the changing structures of the British army in the 19th and 20th centuries
• Obtained handy hints in how to answer enquiries based on military records and photographs, with a particular emphasis on family history research around the First World War.

The ‘What is it?’ day is one of a series of three training days funded by Arts Council England in order to share and develop excellence in collections care and curatorial skills. The day is completely free, including refreshments. Lunch is not included.
