SHCG Conference 2012

Thursday 12th July, 2012 to Friday 13th July, 2012

Annual Conference
The Cardiff Story, Cardiff and MShed, Bristol
12th & 13th July 2012

Do we always get it right? - Interpreting our Social History collections

Over the years SHCG, and its membership, has led the way in pioneering and advocating new approaches to interpreting social history collections for our audiences. We hear a lot about innovation in interpretation and buzz words such as 'co-creation', an approach in which audience groups are integral to the interpretation of content and developing displays.

But, do we always get it right? Conference 2012 intends to explore what does make for successful interpretation and what are the approaches that work best with our visitors?

The conference will include an honest and open examination of what works and what doesn't; mistakes, pitfalls, highlights and eureka moments of interpretation projects past and present.

SHCG Conference offers great value and is a great way to contribute to professional development at all levels of the sector.
By attending "Do we always get it right?" delegates will:
• Contribute to strategic discussions about the role and status of Social History within the sector
• Be inspired to try new ways of working and implement ideas
• Make useful contacts and build their support networks
• Have a chance to reflect on and review their own role and practices, as well as those of colleagues.

ADDED EXTRAS!
As well as the main programme, why not come along in the evening on the 12th to enjoy a guided walk of Cardiff's historic dockland with local expert Bill Jones, followed by a meal at Ffresh in Cardiff's iconic Wales Millenium Centre.

As always, there are two free places available to delegates that have never attended SHCG Conference before. Anyone booking before 30th April will receive a 10% discount on the full booking fee. For further details on both of these offers, please contact Joe Carr, joe.carr@btinternet.com / 07980085998.
